Jeff Jakob’s BALLS 2003 Q2000 Rocket I tried, unsuccessfully, to help Jeff launch this in 2002. I stayed out of the way in 2003 and the launch was a success! Hmmmm... A 54mm minimum diameter filament wound fiberglass rocket with a GWhiz flight computer. Flew it several times and then crashed it. I didn’t have the ejection charge taped into the holder well enough and the powder in the rear facing drogue charge came out under thrust. A scratchbuilt 4” at Blackrock Vacuum bagged fiberglass phenolic tubing. I crashed it, rebuilt it, flew it once successfully, and then crashed it again. The RDAS flight electronics took a pounding, but survived each crash. Both crashes were due to the battery coming partially detatched while under thrust. |
